Risks and Dangers of Nuclear Energy and Weapons
CO2 build up in the atmosphere causes solar energy to be trapped, making the temperature rise. Fossil fuels and uranium could become scarce by overusing them. Nuclear energy is not a clean source of energy because it produces massive amounts of toxic, radioactive waste. Nuclear energy is a risk to our health and environment. We need to substitute with other sources of renewable energy with far less risk and impact. Nuclear weapons release radiation which causes cancer, congenital defects, mental retardation, immune destruction, still births, and other health problems. The production of nuclear weapons has polluted vast amounts of soil and water all over the world. Some of the substances released include plutonium, uranium, mercury and cyanide, and remain hazards for thousands of years, some for hundreds of thousands of years. The presence of nuclear weapons has an enormous potential to impact the social and economic state of the world, furthermore, countries are willing to spend billions of dollars to construct, maintain, and protect its nuclear weapons. The best way to describe how nuclear weapons psychologically affect people, widespread casualties and intense fear and evident degrees of vulnerability, helplessness, isolation and fear.
The magnitude of a nuclear disaster is incomprehensible.
